Alison Overholt ’94

Alumna

In early 2016, Alison Overholt was appointed as the first female editor-in-chief of a major US sports magazine, ESPN The Magazine.

When Sue Harvey, who serves on HKIS’ High School Leadership Team as Dean of Academic Programs, heard that news, she was excited to report to our HKIS community: “An HKIS alumna from the Class of 1994 just made sports history! Allison (Allie) Overholt recently became the first female editor-in-chief of a major US sports magazine, ESPN The Magazine — 95 million subscribers! It’s all over the web.”

In an article in Adweek magazine at the time, Alison commented, “…any time a woman gets to take on an important position, whether you’re aware that there’s a barrier or not, it’s one more thing that other girls and women won’t have to think about in the future.”

On her LinkedIn profile, Alison describes herself as a “multimedia content strategist and experienced editor, writer & producer with 15 years’ experience in the digital media and publishing industries. Also an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management.”

After graduating from HKIS, she gained a B.A. in Government at Harvard University, and has steadily built her career in the worlds of publishing, editing, journalism and digital media.
