On a more personal note, HKIS alumna Leah Thatcher Powell ’97 recalled, “Zac taught me how to overcome and accomplish hard goals. I have never been a swimmer and Zac was one of the best swimmers at school. Our junior year of high school, Zac was assigned to be my swim teacher in PE. Of course I was nervous and embarrassed to have to have my very own teacher, but Zac put me at ease. He encouraged me, taught me, and helped me reach my goals. He became a mentor that I respected and a great friend. Zac continues to do this today, helping people accomplish hard tasks. He’s a motivator and a great friend.”
