Derek Kwik ’86

Derek Kwik is the first Chinese person in the world to have run across the four most extreme deserts on the planet: the Gobi Desert (the highest), the Atacama Desert (the driest), the Sahara Desert (the hottest), and the South Pole (the coldest).

He balances these achievements with a successful career in finance and motivational speaking to schools, corporations, and government and professional organizations.

Derek’s recent achievements include being elected as Co-Chairman and Trustee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HK). He has also been appointed a Member of the Advisory Council for Junior Achievement and a Member of the Advisor Peer Group for the Dean of the Lee Shau Kee Business School at the Open University of Hong Kong.

As the Managing Partner of BraveSoldier Venture Capital, a technology venture capital fund, he is one of Hong Kong’s most respected leaders in the technology community – he has been involved with almost every accelerator/incubator/co-working space in Hong Kong, and enjoys mentoring start-up entrepreneurs.

Derek was nominated for a Bob Christian Award in 2016. In nominating him, Prescille (Chu) Cernosia wrote: “Derek has a successful business career and is heavily involved in the SPCA (HK) as a board member, is the author of children’s books that he reads to HKIS students, and is an ultra-marathon racer who donates funds that he raises to worthy causes in Hong Kong and beyond. He is also a former member of the HKIS Alumni Board.”
