Brothers David and Josh Begbie were the joint recipients of the very first Bob Christian Alumnus of the Year Award in 2009, in recognition of their dedication to the Crossroads Foundation, a Hong Kong-based humanitarian aid and development organization. Perhaps you remember David as “Biff” – that was his nickname during his years at HKIS.

An article in Dragon Tales (Summer 2009), about their award, reported, “David and Joshua have dedicated their lives to serving the local and international communities. With their parents, they established the Hong Kong-based charity Crossroads Foundation in 1996. Today, Crossroads is improving lives for impoverished people around the world, providing relief, creating jobs and rebuilding communities.”

David is the Director of Crossroads Foundation’s experiential simulation programs and a senior spokesman for the organization. Over the past 20 years, he has spoken widely about the work of Crossroads, representing it for the press, educational institutions, business corporations, and consular and United Nations events. Over 150,000 participants have engaged in Crossroads’ simulations, including attendees at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Josh worked at Crossroads for many years, looking at how “business done well” can transform communities. He recently transitioned into a role in Australia, where he is working in small-business development and seeing how he can impact the world from that vantage point.

In an article in DragonTales (Winter 2012/2013), David wrote, “Life continues to roll, but both Josh and I remain grateful, that in the midst of it all, our lives can offer a little respite to a world in need. We had thought that to serve, we had to become like Mother Theresa. Wonderfully, though, we are learning that her principles can be outworked in a business suit, theatrical costumes, and in a thousand other ways when hearts are willing.”
