Teacher, 1979-1999
Dr. Karl Ostheller, a popular Math teacher and sports coach from 1979 to 1999, was known throughout the HKIS community as simply “Doc. O.”.
Sharing his impressions, alumnus Todd Wong ‘81 said, “Doc. O. was the most positive influence teacher during my High School years. He guided me through the awkward teenage years with his calming and upbeat presence. In addition to being a patient teacher who made himself available after class, he was also a great traveling companion during school trips and camping trips, and a mentor for student activity groups. I do cherish Doc. O. for his mentoring, his wise counsel, and his friendship.”
And alumnus Paul Langford ’84 recalled, “He was my math teacher for three years and also my basketball coach for three years. He really encouraged me, exposed me to so much new information, challenged me to new heights, gave me great opportunities, instructed me, empowered me. I know he did the same for hundreds of other students too, in the classroom and on the basketball court.”
Since returning to the US, Karl has continued to teach and is a dedicated member of Lions International.
