Intro to Programming: Day 1

During the first Intro to Programming class we looked at the course overview and did introductions. The course seems to be interesting because it is focusing a lot on problem solving. This problem solving works into the course because programming is about understanding problems so that you can adequately describe the problem in a program. I was initially interested in this class because I wanted to expand my understanding of programming, but now I realise that this course is not focused on programming. During the two truths and a lie exercise Adish Patel three statements were 1. Never broken a bone in his body 2. Has gone Paragliding Before 3. Has gone skydiving before. His lie was number 2.

Charlie’s Showcase Development Reflection

Collaborative Process:

The process was very collaborative as a class and in peer groups. As a class we often discussed the progress of are Showcase Environment and were shown by Mr. Lea the showcase environments of previous classes. This all helped in the development process. I have also been showing my showcase environment to my peers for peer review, there critiquing has helped me to refine my ideas during this class.

Idea Development Process:

My idea development process was painfully slow, but so are most effective showcases. I started with a bunch of ideas in a on padlet and slowly refined them to a good attainable goal environment. This goal environment was a entry room leading to a circular tower in which all of the photo’s I had of previous projects would be stored. This idea soon became unreachable because of the circular walls and the flat square photo’s. Because of this development I had to make my tower a 3D rectangle.

Technical Process:

The technical process was at the beginning intense and confusing, but as time went on I grew accustomed to the buttons. Of course the Technical Process was confusing as to make my showcase environment unique I had to develop skills that were branched away from what we talked about in Class. Even so by the end of thee development of my showcase environment I understood what I was doing to a intermediate level.

Concerns:

I am semi-concerned about problems with viewing the photos and screenshots that I have taken of my Tech 3D projects. I have also had problems in the past with glass becoming non-transparent when screenshots are taken of it or it is changed from its file form as a .dae. Other than that I am only worried that in that I have presented my photos they will seem a little bit unorganised and random.

Celebrations:

I am celebrating because I have had success in sticking with my original idea and have not had to make serious changes to my showcase environment. What I mean by this is the most drastic change I had to make to my environment was changing the shape of the tower. Some of my peers had to change there whole ideas.

What Knowledge can I transfer:

Over the course of this semester long course I have learned I lot of skills in both Photoshop and Sketch up. Under the overall title of 3D design. All of the skills I have learned throughout this course, will be highly applicable during my high school experience, college experience, and really for the rest of my life. The knowledge that I have transferred is intermediate to expert level photoshop skills and intermediate sketch up skills.

This is a top down view of the entrance hall. As you can see there are two projects shown in here. My staircase, which was my first sketch up project. And my blog header which was my first photoshop project. Although there are alternating blog headers on the steps, one is updated.

These are all photos/images from the that are shown inside the tower. These include the Prompt, the hut, 315B Room redesign, and me representation. All of these were the focus of the class and helped me and my peers develop a deeper understanding of the skills we were using

There are many aspect’s of the picture that might immediately pop out as flaws and mistakes, But they are not all so. Some are specifically placed to make the environment seem more other – worldly.

Collaborative Process:
This project was in-fact a very collaborative project. Although as we neared the project deadline it, became less collaborative because you were working to improve the project not change it. During the first classes designated to the Hut we created a brainstorming environment on Padlet:

This is where we shared ideas for what are Hut could be could be these ideas included. On a Cloud, the Moon, a Wave, and many other ideas. During these first couple days we worked on deciding what environment we wanted are Hut to be in. Some people drew, some designed there ideas in Photoshop. The most recent class activity related to the project that we have done is share are half-developed projects with the class.

Idea Development Process:
My idea development process was actually pretty simple. I was set of having the moon as the environment, and only made minor changes to the images I was using. But others processes were much more bumpy in the way that they switched around there ideas a lot because they realised the environment did not fit the Hut.

I did move the hut for where it was to make it fit into the environment better.

Technical Process:

The Biggest technical difficulty I encountered was creating stars. For the starry background I had to use noise which is tricky because it creates way to many visible stars. To solve this I used blue and made the layer more opaque.

Concerns:
I am afraid that the moon gets to dark just before you hit the horizon. This creates contrast that might ruin the environment.

What skills can I gained?
I now understand how to blur object in a more precise and technical way. I have learned to create decent lighting effects. I can now to manipulate that noise of an image to the level of a intermediate.

End Product:
I am not really satisfied with the imagery and technical skill I used to work on the image and environment.

MacBeth

Act 1

Scene 1:  Three witches are meeting to conspire about meeting Macbeth (A powerful general for the Scottish army. The scene is a stormy night.

Scene 2: King Duncan and his party meet a wounded sergeant on the battlefield and he tells them about the battle. Then the solider is carried to the doctors. The Thane of Ross enters and tells the king that Macbeth has won. King says that Macbeth is now the Thane of Cawdor.

Scene 3: The witches are waiting for Macbeth. They worship him as Thane of Cawdor and as King. The Thane of Ross enters and tell’s Macbeth that he is actually the Thane of Cawdor. Hearing this Macbeth begins to think about him becoming King. Then they leave towards the King.

Scene 4: Banquo and Macbeth meet the King. The King names his Son Malcolm the Prince of Cumberland. Macbeth leaves after saying that he would travel ahead to prepare a banquet for the king.

Scene 5: Lady Macbeth is summoning evil spirits to her after reading the letter from Macbeth. Then she is told that Macbeth and King Duncan are on there way to the castle. She goes back to summoning evil spirits and Macbeth walks in. She tells him that they have to murder King Duncan tonight. Macbeth says they shouldn’t.

Scene 6: Lady Macbeth greets King Duncan with his Party of Banquo and the Kings Son’s. The King Continues complimenting Macbeth. They go inside to meet Macbeth.

Scene 7: Macbeth has a moment of indecision the Lady Macbeth walks in. He tells her that they will not continue with the plan. She gets mad and starts calling Macbeth a coward and begins to say that she doubts his love for her. This convinces him to go on with the murder.

Act 2

Scene 1: Banquo cant sleep so he is wandering the court yard talking to his son. They run into Macbeth who Banquo tells about his dreams of power. Macbeth says the witches prophecies have not bothered him. Banquo leaves. Macbeth has a Long Soliloquy about killing Duncan. The bell signalling that Duncan’s guard’s have passed out rings and Macbeth goes.

Scene 2: Macbeth comes back from murdering Duncan and Lady Macbeth is waiting for him. She tells him to go wash his hands of the blood then realises that he is still carrying the daggers from the crime scene. When he refuses to go back she scolds him and does it herself. She comes back and tells Macbeth that they have to go to bed so that people think that they have been sleeping instead of taking committing Duncan’s Murder.

Scene 3: The Porter lets 2 people in to the castle. The commotion wakes Macbeth. They go to wake the King. They discover the King is dead. Then they wake up the rest of the Kings Party. In the mean time Macbeth kills the two guards before they can proclaim there innocence of the crime. They have a conversation and before Macbeth tells them he has killed the two guards out of passion. Malcolm and Dolabaine flee the castle fearing there safety.

Scene 4: Macbeth is named king of scots because Malcolm and Dolabaine have fled and are presumed to be the ones behind there fathers murder.

Act 3

Scene 1: Opens to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as King and Queen. Banquo is beginning to think that Macbeth murdered the king to fulfil the weird sisters prophecy. Macbeth thinks that Banquo is a danger to him so he has him killed by mercenaries who have agreed not to tell anyone.

Scene 2: Lady Macbeth calls for Macbeth. She tells him that guilt of there deeds in over hanging there accomplishments and that even though they are now king and queen she does not feel happy. Macbeth tells her that he plans to kill Banquo, and when she asks how he tells her it is the knowledge that would corrupt her.

Scene 3: The two murders are joined by a third murder sent by Macbeth. Banquo and Fleeance arrive and the murders attack. They successfully kill Banquo but Fleeance gets away. The third murder kills the other two.

Scene 4: Macbeth finds out that Banquo is dead, but Fleeance is still alive. At the Banquet Macbeth has Hallucinations of Banquo. His guest leave under the guise that he is ill. He is going to the weird sisters.

Scene 5: Macbeth walks up to the weird sisters who are around a cauldron. They give him three prophecies that reassure him. He asks them to tell him more but they deny him and then leave.

Scene 6: After the weird sisters leave him Macbeth becomes enraged and runs off looking for them. The landscape changes and now it shows Lennox and another person have a conversation about how the suspect Macbeth killed King Duncan and Malcolm”s Plan.

Act 4:

Scene 1: Macbeth has been told that Macduff has fled to England. Macbeth says he will kill Macduff’s family.

Scene 2: Ross is talking to Lady Macduff trying to explain that her husband fled for a reason. Ross leaves. A messenger comes to warn Lady Macduff that murders are coming for her and her son. She does not listen. Murders come and kill everyone in the castle.

Scene 3: Macduff arrives. Malcolm tests him. Macduff proves trust worthy. Ross tells Macduff that his family has been killed. Macduff turns his grief into rage and swears revenge on Macbeth.

Act 5

Scene 1: There is a doctor in Lady Macbeth’s Castle. This is far after she has gone to bed. She comes out sleep walking. She talks about all the terrible deeds she has done. She goes back to bed. The doctor leaves after saying that he will not tell a soul.

Scene 2: Scottish rebels are sitting around a fire talking about where they should meet the English army. They find out that Macbeth is hauled up in his castle.

Scene 3: Macbeth is in his war room and is fairly confident despite the fact that there are 10000 troops at his door step. He thinks that he cannot die without the prophecies being fulfilled. The doctor comes in and Macbeth gets mad at him.

Scene 4: The solider’s are in Burnham wood and they cut the branches for Camouflage.

Scene 5: Macbeth is still thinking that he can win. Lady Macbeth commits suicide because of her depression. Macbeth resides to fighting to the death.

Scene 6: Malcolm and Macduff gather and throw down there leafy screens. Then go to attack.

Scene 7: Macbeth still thinks he can win. A young solider confronts him. They fight. Macbeth wins and kills the young solider.

Scene 8: Macbeth is sitting in his throne thinking about what has happened. Macduff enters and proceeds to fight with macbeth. Macduff wins and when Malcolm arrives crowns him king of Scotland. Then there is a heated moment with Fleeance.

Prompt Reflection Post

1. I had to come up with an idea for my project. I decided to tie it to Time and Motion. That is how I came up with the idea of Time is like a wave.

Reflection Post

Of the course of the unit my perception/definition of the words: racism, prejudice, stereotypes, and identity have been changed exponentially. At the beginning of the unit I thought that racism and prejudice was not present in my life, but now I realise that it is as present in my life as is speech because a lot of the time whenever I talk to a person either me or them make a stereotypical remark about a certain race, gender, and other defining parts of your external identity or what is above the iceberg. I say this because even though it is not traits such as race or gender that make up your identity it is sometimes what other people think makes up you identity. For example. A class mate of mine told a story about his or her mother experiencing extreme sexism and I realised how common things like this occurred in work environments (Did you know that there are more CEO’s with the name john than there are women CEO’s). This is one example of stereotypes and prejudice on a very high level.

  1. How does race shape the way we see ourselves and others?                                                                                                                                             Race shapes mostly the way others see us which in turn through society, social networking, the internet, and peer pressure  shapes the way we see ourselves. But if you disregard this process race shapes us by pre-determining are stature and success or at least this is the view of your average white person in the 1980’s.

  2. To what extent do our ideas about race influence the choices we make?                                                                                                                      They shape are decisions because sometimes race can either give you confidence and sometimes it can make you unsure of yourself.

Tuff Times

19/03.2015: Today we read chapter 4 and some big things happened. For Example: PonyBoy talks to Cherry who is a Soc the enemy gang of the greasers of which PonyBoy is a member. I believe the author wants us to realise that there is not that much different between Soc’s and the Greasers. Another Big Event the occurred during this chapter was when the Soc’s in the Blue Mustang stopped PonyBoy, Two-Bit, Johnny, Cherry, and Marcia and PonyBoy realised that it was the same mustang that the Soc’s that jumped Johnny road in.

I can sort of connect to what PonyBoy is feeling right now which I believe is disbelief as he it is occurring to him that there might not be so much different between the Soc’s and the Greasers. As once or twice in my life I have had a sworn enemy who turned out to have a lot in common with me and seemed to be a pretty cool person.

23/03/2015:

1. I think Johnny killed Bob for multiple reasons. 1: I think that he hates Bob because of the beating he gave him, but who can blame him. 2: I believe he was really scared for his and Ponyboy’s lives. 3: He did it by accident and was just trying to threaten them so that the would be scared away.

2. He could have threatened to stab Bob to scare them away. He could have tried to save Bob by stopping the bleeding and maybe getting him to a hospital.

3. I think he said that because Johnny life although not good was not as bad as it can get before he killed the Soc named Bob. And now that he killed him the time is over and he is losing most of which that has value to him.

4. I think that Ponyboy is innocent because he did not actually do anything other that nearly get drowned by the Soc’s and that is definitely not a crime. I think that Johnny is actually hiding his main motive for killing Bob.

25/03/2015:

1. I think Cherries motives are unknown right now and why she is helping the Ponyboy and his gang is kind of blurry right now. She could be helping them for any number of reasons, but I suspect it is because she is hiding something. Something Big.

2. I think that in some respect Ponyboy, Dallas , and Johnny are hero’s but that doesn’t mean that they are true hero’s because they have done bad things and made extreme mistakes.

3. Yes I think Darry does care, and I think he always cared. But I think that Ponyboy didn’t know it because Darry was extra hard on him and he thought it was because he disliked him other than just wanting him to succeed in life.

 

26/03/2015:

1. I think she see’s what she saw in Bob in him as she says near the end of chapter 8. She see’s a leading quality that makes her see him differently. Bob had a good side and a bad side even though Bob showed only his bad side to Ponyboy and Johnny.

2. I think he judges people by there eyes and now that he realises that Cherry Valance has green eyes and in some way that I don’t understand right now it affects the way he see’s her. We will find out how it affects his opinion of her in more detail later on in the book. One can also realise that Ponyboy’s Gang has darker coloured eyes and for some reason I think that he trusts cherry more because her eyes are a similar colour to his or his brothers eyes.

Government Unit-Social Studies

How do you feel you did on the government unit? (Include PSA)

I think I did okay there were multiple occasions where things could have been done to raise my grade for example. Although I did notes for all my tests I only submitted chapter 6 notes even though I got a DE on those particular notes. This was just laziness on my part. But overall I feel that I mastered a lot of the skills, but some of my weakness came into play for example my weakness when it comes to writing.

What would you do differently next time?

I would probably review my essays more thoroughly and I would defiantly turn in my notes on the chapters after chapter 6.

What study strategies worked best for you?

My study strategy was real time paraphrasing which is when you paraphrases sections of a document right after you read that particular section so you will paraphrase lots of information while reading the document. This strategy was really effective for memorising the knowledge but not as much so for interpreting.

What strategies didn’t work?

On one test I did not study at all and although I got and ME I guessed most of the questions.

Next Time there is a test how will you prepare?

I will prepare with real time paraphrasing the document and then reviewing my paraphrases.

What I have Learned:

When designing a learning space you have to design spaces with different purposes. For Example in my 315 redesign The area with the bean bags is like a chill zone where students collaborate and discuss. Where as the Area with the lectern is more for listening to instructions.
