  • How did you select the photo of yourself. (What made you choose this photo over others?)
  • What is the most important aspect of your final work? Why?
  • How is your work a representation of yourself and your connection to a community?  What personal qualities/traits/messages are you attempting to convey?
  • What part of your work are you most proud of? What part of your work were you most challenged by?

I selected this photo of myself because it represented me. I had other photos where I was smiling and making faces but that wasn’t really me as a person. I chose this photo because I am chill, calm, quiet kind of person with not a lot of expression. The most important aspect of my final work would be the expression I painted. For me, what the painting shows is more than what is on the canvas. What I mean by this is that if I chose other photos to paint, the final result of the quality (such as colour, shape, eyes, nose, etc.) of the painting would be the same. It is just the interpretation would be different. The interpretation and expression I am giving through this painting is my personality and how I am always low key and cool. The part of my work I am most proud of is how real it looks. For example, if my friend walks pass this painting, they would definitely know that is me. The most challenging part was drawing my eyeglasses. This was super hard because I couldn’t just draw a circle around my eye. I had to really paint the shape of my glasses and the shadows underneath it.
