Is Ignorance Bliss (or Chocolate Slavery Activity)
- What was your biggest insight from today’s class?
- What action did you take at the end of the class regarding the free trade (possibly slave-produced) vs. fair trade chocolate and why? Also think about: what went through your mindregarding what action you took, and how much/how little were you influenced by your peers?
My biggest insight from today’s class was that understanding the world is very important whether it is good or bad. I also learned that you should know the world even though sometimes knowing these bad things are hurtful. Even though we don’t feel so great knowing what people go through on a day to day basis,in other countries, knowing the fact will help your understanding and will try to help you change the world to a better place.I decided not to take the chocolate because I felt like there was no need to get ethir of the chocolates. Even if I had to choose I would pick the organic chocolate, even though you have to pay money at least you are saving a few minutes of labor off a child who has been working all day. Lots of people like free food so when the other chocolate, the one made by the African kids, was free people chose that one. But knowing how much these kids have to work disturbs me because, when I saw the video in class, the children were working all day skipping their education and not being with their family. This shows how broken their childhood is and it is very sad. I was not influenced by my peers but watching everyone else in the class eat the chocolate shows that everyone has choices and people chose to help or to not do anything.
Can’t stop the feeling my Justin Timberlake is about feeling happy and always having fun. I learned that during the experience of 8th grade it was a wonderful experience making new friends and having a better relationship with others also. 8th grade has been one of the best years for me and I think this song summarized how much I enjoyed this year.
Stressed Out by twenty one pilots is a song which is about people who are stressed out. During this year there were many times where I was stressed out. For example during the musical and I had to remember my lines and all of the tests happening this whole year.
What do you mean by Justin Bieber is saying how confused you are with what everyone is saying. I think this connects with me this year because when you are in class you are sometimes thinking of other things, you might be stressed out, tired or just thinking of something else cause you are bored. With this when people say thing or your teachers, you would ask “what do you mean”. So I think this summarizes lots of things cause there are so many topics in the year that you learn therefore there would be lots of “what do you means.”
Lean and dab: I chose this song because every morning I sometimes I dread to go to school and other times I am really excited. But in this song it is saying how you lean and dab when you wake up, this is what I hope to wake up every morning, happy, but of course with exams and some classes you don’t enjoy that dose not happen. But there are some times in school which this song would come as an example, for example sports day, legally blonde musical and other events.
Shake it off is about having fun no matter what, there might be bullies or people that judge you no matter what. With this it happens a lot in middle school. But no matter what you should always have fun with your friends and “shake it off.” I feel like this shows me in middle school with grades, friends, teachers, “friends” and more people that apply so much stress. But you should always have fun and have a good year, cause this is the last year of middle school.

You belong with me by Taylor Swift and Shower by Becky G: Both show different perspectives on having a crush. You belong with me shows high school perspective on how 2 people like each other and at the end get together. Shower, By Becky G is about how when you like someone you have that happy mood with in you. When you are in middle school there will be a time where you at least like someone. That was me during middle school, When I had a crush you got that happy feeling, but of course since this is middle school we all move on at the end. 😛
A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton: I chose this song because when you take the literal meaning you are traveling lots of miles to school when you add it up at the end of the year. But Since everyday we travel lots of miles to come to school and wake up early, each time we come we make the new memories we remember.
For the book animal farm I will be explaining my character analysis on the character Napoleon.
When I read the book animal farm, by George Orwell, ever since the beginning Napoleon was the same character through out the book. The only difference was during the book Napoleon grew more selfish, Hart less e.t.c. as the story progressed. This book animal farm is about animals and how they were like humans and the Russian Revolution and how animals are very similar to us. For example on the last page it quoted that they couldn’t tell the different between the pigs and humans each time they looked, with this it meant that they are just as selfish and learning and doing things that people do in our society.
One of the character traits I would describe Napoleon is selfish. During the book Napoleon never thought on anyone else but him self. His whole goal in Animal farm was to be the most powerful person and rule the farm no matter what. Some examples of this in the book are; he is very tough on the animals and never though of their feelings and opinions, stole food from other animals, blamed animals for things they didn’t do and convincing the animals there is no after life for them which gives the animals no hope. This is like many powerful people’s goals in movies or in life. But with a lot of power can make you loose control and sometimes it makes you scared and you want to protect yourself. Secretly I think Napoleon is a scared person on what will happen with the farm, feature plans, rivalries and loosing control on everything. For example, in the book Napoleon has dog guards everywhere. I think this showed he was loosing control and confidence. Good leaders do that sometimes but sometimes there is too much and it takes too much control of everything.
Another character trait of Napoleon’s in that he is very greedy. Since he is very powerful in the Animal Farm all he thinks about is ruling the farm and doing what ever it takes to still be in that position. There are many times in the book which demonstrates why he is so greedy. For example he stole apples and milk from the animals, told the animals to add more food for the pigs based on “health reasons,” and power is the main goal for him the whole time. With this he is also very sneaky because he has managed to do all of these things with out getting in trouble my the animals, even though the animals never got a say in anything and was not able to speak up. Although Napoleon is “trying” to be a good leader, he never thinks of the other animals. He is a very heartless person. When you compare Napoleon to Snowball, Napoleon takes matters very seriously and will do anything no matter how much it will hurt to the other animals. But for Snowball is listens to the other animals and cares what they feel to make the Animal Farm a better place and try and achieve what Mr.Jones wanted them to do before he passed away. Napoleon was never upset when Molly left and Snowball, especially when Boxer when in the van. Animals were grieving and Napoleon didn’t do anything at all. Going back to what I said before, George Orwell made Napoleon a very cruel person and their whole goal was power. At the end of Animal Farm Napoleon was getting the majority of his goal which hurting the whole farm on the way.
Through out the story from the windmill, sugar candy mountain, squealer turning things from black to white, snowball, molly, boxer and the revolutions that have happened between animals and farms were thought out by Napoleon this whole time. Napoleon is a very smart animal and sometimes his smartness has harmed many people but was very clever and convincing. For example he convinced the animals that there is no such thing as sugar candy mountain and that snowball broke the windmill. Another main one was that he convinced the animals that the commandments were very equal. During the whole book it talk about equality and that no body is very equal. In our book discussion we said ” everyone has a different point on what equal means so no body has a correct saying on what is equal.” That was what summed the whole book on how everyone is special in their own ways and that you can never change that even if you are trying to make a society or “farm” a better place. Animal farm was a very good book and Napoleon is what set the action to the book, making the law, showing us in reality many people are like this. For example in the beginning of the book the pigs were alway smarter than the other animals, this shows from text to world that everyone has advantages and disadvantages from other people and that is how everything has been done. At the end of the book it says they couldn’t tell the different between pig to human back and forward. This shows how humanity has changed and that Napoleon shows the reality in that book but in a “tale” way.
Napoleon character analysis: by Isabella, Animal Farm by George Orwell
Here is the visual I have. This newspaper is what I was trying to recreate of the newspaper that started this whole journey for these special kids. In this newspaper, as you can see in the document, says ” Are you a special child?” With this when all of the kids read this thousands of them went to this test to see if they were really special. With this all of the series continued and it was a great successes. I feel that this was the whole base of the story. With out this nothing would have happened. The Mysterious Benedict Society is about a group of people that see a newspaper that says ” Are you a special child ? ( Mr.Benedict page 1) With this the story is about a group of kids which are named Reynie, Kate, Constance and George, which his nick name is Sticky, find this newspaper and they take the quiz. Out of all of the thousands of kids the 4 of them made it on. In the journeys they have to solve the crimes that people have done and figure out all the clues that only these special kids can.
This Newspaper shows the story which captivated these kids to try. As you can see in the top paragraph, which is left from the yellow box, it is a letter which shows what this whole newspaper was about. I wrote this to show the whole moral of the story. I think the moral of the story is that everyone is special in many ways. For example you can be a special child in musical instruments, languages, art, dancing, singing, acting, math, science and many other things. Everyone is special in their own way and just because there is a test that very little students get into doesn’t mean you aren’t special. That is why I made a whole introduction paragraph in the newspaper to show that but in Mr.Benedict’s writing. In the left, which is the yellow box shows the information on all of the rules that were mentioned in the book. Showing that this test was very important for the society. In the bottom i just explained everything else on what the society wanted in the kids and explained to all of them. I hope you guys read the Benedict Society books 1-5 by Trenton Lee Stewart.
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stweart starts off with a boy named Reynie Muldoon who is an orphan who has been living there for his whole life. Reynie is a very special child who has kept wondering where and who his parents are. Since Reynie is a very special child he is not very close with the other orphans in his school as they don’t treat Reynie nicely. Everyday Reynie spends this time everyday with his “tutor” named Mrs.Perumal which they talk about everyday things like the news, people, shows etc. One day Reynie and Mrs.Perumal saw on a newspaper that said ” are you a special child? If you are come here ( the location they had to be to take a test) this will determine if you are a special child. Soon enough on that day Reynie went to that location and they have many academic and mental questions that would get you into the Mysterious Benedict Society. This took for than a few days to finished all of the tests. Soon enough Reynie got in in addition with 3 more people . These 3 students were named Kate ( who is also known as the great weather machine), Sticky Washington and Constance. These 4 people went on a quest to figure out all of the crazy things on of the geniuses did you control people with messages. With this they will learn the crazy things about people a very special child and that you should stick together and work as a team.
When I read this book I learned that in the Mysterious Benedict Society the kids had to learn to trust their brains. This was of course they had to figure out clues and solve what was going on with some of the characters in the book. Another thing that I learned in the book was that these kids were not attached to their parents, they didn’t know them or they were not treated right. Then the kids would feel like no body cares about them. The imporant thing about this was that since all of these kids were abandoned by their parents they learned that they could make a family of their own. Friendships can bring friends together and ( spoiler) at the end of the book they become really good friends and they permanently stay at the Benedict Society and solve more crimes and their clues.
I started to read this book because many of my friends recommended this book to me. I really liked this book and I hope that you guys will enjoy the book as much as I did. I would recommend this book for people who like mysteries but a bit of action. This is because the kids are figuring out clues while there is action going on around them.
here is my script:
Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli is a book about a boy who is a Jew lives during a time where everyone is hiding from each other and if they are found they would die. The protagonist of this book dose not use his name a lot but he is known as the “stop thief” but since he was a orphan and was unsure of his life he changed his name to Misha Pilsudski, with on his journey he meets a girl named Janina Milgrom, they meet when Misha was trying to steal food. During this story they go to the Warsaw Ghetto Misha and Janina become good friends during the really hard time they are going through during the Holocost. As the test goes harder then their friendship goes stronger. Especially when they go through the train to pass to the countries in the ending of the book deaths bring their friendship together and staying strong. ” Close your eyes and hold my hand – page 75 chapter 16 Spinelli” I thought that this meant that you have to trust each other and ” hold on” to what you have. When I read Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli I was very confused as a young child reading this. But when I read it again there was a very strong meaning of friendship that touches your heart. I hope you read this book and love it as much as I do.
