1.) Who is it for?
I think it’s for anyone who comes to appreciate it. It helps the art and photography learners get inspiration. It’s for middle school and lower primary students and teachers to come and enjoy the peacefulness and nature that lives there.
2.) What is the design?
The design follows the lines of a zen garden with the plants, the waterfall, and the rocks/pebbles. The elements come together to create a calming sensation.
3.) Where is it?
It is located on the third floor of the middle school. It can be seen by both the lower primary and middle school art rooms, the chef room, the outdoor eating area.
4.) Why was it made?
it’s a nice environment to be around. Also, this area was bare and not used enough, also, it helps create a better view to the students in art class and chef class.
5.) Do you notice anything that could be improved about the space? Add your critique about the space.
I think that they should create places where people can sit, so they don’t have to just stand around. If there were sitting places, this would be a place where more students would be able to go to hang out and socialise.
Evaluate your overall work by examining your idea (how did you develop your idea to completion?) and technique (how successful was your technique?)
I think I did okay on my book. It wasn’t what I had in mind and I’m not entirely sure I like this one more, but I’m proud of my work because I know I tried my best, and it was a lot harder than expected. My ideas developed because I finished my maze before others finished theirs, so I had time to work on the back and front cover to add more detail.
What am I building – The leaning tower of Pisa
Where is this located – This is located in Pisa, Itlay
Who is the architect – The architect is Bonanno Pisano
When was it constructed – Construction started in 1173 and finished in 1372
Materials used – The materials used were marble and stone
History of my architectural form was During World War II, the Allies discovered that the Germans were using the tower as an observation post. A U.S. Army sergeant sent to confirm the presence of German troops in the tower was impressed by the beauty of the cathedral and its campanile, and thus refrained from ordering an artillery strike, sparing it from destruction. Numerous efforts have been made to restore the tower to a vertical orientation or at least keep it from falling over. Most of these efforts failed; some worsened the tilt. On February 27, 1964, the government of Italy requested aid in preventing the tower from toppling. It was, however, considered important to retain the current tilt, due to the role that this element played in promoting the tourism industry of Pisa.
Purpose of my architectural form – The purpose is to attract tourists to Pisa
Memorable features – This building stands out because it is on a slant, and it wasn’t originally supposed to be like that, but because of it, it has become more famous
1.) To transform the book, I am carving in a maze and painting over it to bring out the details.
2.) My ideas are original because I came up with it and I’m doing things I have never done before.
3.) The techniques I’m using are cutting and painting
4.) My craftsmanship isn’t as good as I would like it to be and I wish I paid more attention to detail.
5.) I am using my time really well and have made great progress.
6.) Improvements I could make include working on details within the maze and editing rough patches throughout
This is unique because there is both negative and positive space within the sculpture and it has a variety of details.
This is unique because it shows the setting and makes the book alive by making the sculpture 3D.
This is unique because it shows the problem presented in the book and is a good literal representation.
1.) I have chosen to represent the theme “Sands of Time” by incorporating ivy crawling up the sides of my pot. I feel that having this represents sometimes there are actions and things that may cover up your past or troubled times, but that doesn’t mean that they’re gone, it just means that something beautiful has come over. Also, within the coils, I have different spirals and spheres imbedded within the sculpture. I feel this represents impacting times in my life and that they will always stay with me, even as my life goes on.
2.) My coil pot is different from my lantern because my lantern is one main piece of clay with cut outs in it, but my coil pot is constructed of many small pieces of clay put together. Another reason they’re different is because I had more freedom when constructing my lantern, I feel this because we didn’t really have any boundaries. On the coil pot, we had a few rules that we had to follow, and it was a little harder to express myself. Another reason they’re different is because I spent more time and effort on my coil pot, and overall, I am more proud of it than my lantern.
3.) Some improvements I could make to my work is that when constructing, to really focus on the shape I’m making, and the top of my pot is not even and that kind of bothers me because I tend to like things really neat.
What I made was my own personal sketchbook. Using paper, tape, and string, I constructed a book that I will be using throughout the semester. On the cover, I drew a sort of pattern, I drew this because I like to think of it as a piece of artwork I can keep adding to, like there is no end to it.
The purpose of my sketchbook in class is to write down my ideas and keep them organized. If I ever have an idea that could make a piece of my artwork better, instead of keeping it to myself, i could write it down to make sure I don’t forget. This class is to take our creative thoughts, and to put them into artwork, so another use of this sketchbook is to jot down any creative ideas that come into my head.
The benefits of making my own sketchbook is that I am left with the feeling of accomplishment, that something that I made will be put to good use instead of just buying a book. Also, it is a lot more environmentally friendly, because it uses less paper than a bought book.
If I were to make my sketchbook over again, I don’t think I would change anything because what we were instructed to do was straightforward, and the product made was held together and still looked as good as a store bought one.
The Expansion by Paige Bradley
Background Information – Paige Bradley conceived this piece when she first moved to Manhattan. She was startled by the power of the curators and the critics, and if she wanted to stay in the fine art field, she knew she had to join her contemporaries and make ‘contemporary’ art. She took a perfectly good wax sculpture – a piece she had sculpted with precision over several months – an image of a woman meditating in the lotus position, and dropped it on the floor. She then cast all the pieces in bronze and assembled the pieces so they floated apart from one another. Then she brought in a lighting specialist and they built a crazy lighting system to make it glow from within.
Materials – Bronze with electricity
Why I find this interesting – Although the sculpture is cracked, the woman is still at peace and is letting the electricity inside her shine out.
Emergence by Sayaka Kajita Ganz
Background Information – The artist made this piece using only recycled items because she says her working process is reminiscent of her experiences growing up in several different countries, of being disconnected from the place she was born. So she goes around and finds discarded objects from people’s homes and gives them a second home.
Materials – Recycled materials
Why I find this interesting – This piece of art is proof that you can use any kind of materials to make a beautiful piece of work.
