Goals

Writing Goal: To revise my work at least three times before I hand it in to Ms. Bevear.

S: I need to print out or command: talk my computer so I can correct my errors.

M: I will need to edit 3 times (if time allows.) My drafts will be my evidence.

A I will need to read over my work in my head or listen to my computer.

R: I will print a cop and read it, listen to it, and read it aloud.

T: It will take 20-30 minutes for me to revise three times, so it is realistic when we get a few days to work on our pieces.

Reading Goal: My goal is to ready 11 books in total by christmas break.

S: To read four more books by christmas break, three of which will be mystery.

M: I have over six weeks to finish this goal, so it is very measurable. My evidence will be my reading log.

A: I will have to read for 20-30 minutes every night.

WRITING: My goal for writing is to write one realistic fiction short story in my free time to try and help me get used to writing for fun.

S: I will use my old goal and edit at least 3 times to make sure there are no mistakes

M: My evidence will be my finished story

A:  I will write for a total of 30 minutes a week

R: I like to write, so it shouldn’t be hard for me to get focused and do it.

T: A short story is not too time consuming and will be quite possible if I do manage my time

S: I hope to read at least 7 more book by the end of the year, leaving me with 15 book for the semester. 

M: I chose 7 instead of 8 books because I know that I will not have too much time in the upcoming quarter. I can achieve my goal by continuing to read every night for 15-20 minutes. My evidence will be the amount of books in my reading log.

A: I think this goal is attainable because I have been reading consistently and should be able to get the same amount done. Although I may not have nearly as much time as last quarter, I still think I can get a similar amount. 

R: I think this goal is realistic because I have achieved it in the past, but have had to put some effort into it. 

T: I should complete this goal by the end of the year. This is about the same time that I had to complete my past goals. 

Writing: My writing goal foe this semester is to receive all ME grades in sentence fluency.

S: I will work on noredink or other websites to work on sentence fluency. I will also make sure to read my work aloud and to look for errors in my writing. 

M: My grades on powerschool will show weather or not I worked on my writing and if I looked through my pieces. 

A: This goal is achievable because I do not need that much time out of school, I just need a little bit and to look over my work. 

R: I think this goal is realistic because there is not a huge amount that I need to work on. I just need to work on small errors in my grammar.

T: I will finish this goal by the end of the year because I should have all or majoritively ME grades on my powerschool.

CYOA Reflection

I think Emma, Kris and my CYOA is an overall ME because we finished our story on the deadline, and it we meet most to all of the expectations. The only thing that our story may have lacked was connection to the Gods, we did have some connections but we could have put some more connections. I feel like my parts were pretty full, but they may have gotten a little short in the end. I feel that we worked very well together especially for being a threesome. I also feel that we didn’t slack off much at all. I feel very good about our CYOA.

Temple Reflection

I think me and emma could have done much better on our temple because we only had two pillars and our temple was not very well constructed. I think we also could have made the temple look a bit prettier as well because our temple is quite ugly. I think that me and emma were pretty well focused for the first part of the time, but for the rest of the time i think we were a little bit off task. I have also noticed that our temple is starting to fall down and should have had at least four pillars for it to be stable. But on the other hand, we did have a frieze, pediment, and columns, so we met at least three of the expectations.

 

But on the other, other hand, I think our design could have actually been a bit useful for saving money and materials. We had tape running down the sides, connecting to the ground for support, and it was made with very little material. If our design were to be more stable, It would be quite useful to people lacking in money. They could potentially add more pillars, but even using wire to add support might help, but only if the roof and frieze were very light material like tin.

End Of Year Reflection

I think this year was a great year. I had so much fun in my first year of middle school. I think that I have changed as a reader because i have been reading more mature books, and kind of read more genres than just non-fiction. I feel that I have really branched out since last year. For example, I have read so many more books this year than I did last year. I have read 20 books so far this year, and last year I barely read any. I feel so much accomplishment from this.I also feel I have changed as a writer because I have been writing a lot more mature pieces. For example, I have been writing so many more essays, and I feel I have goten so much better at writing them since last year. I think I have also changed so much in typing because before I can into grade 6, I could barely type. I was almost picking at the keys. But now I can type almost without looking at the keyboard. I have noticed that we have worked our way up from places that were not well developed, to places that are very well developed. For example, we started out studying Africa, a very undeveloped country, and worked our way up to ancient Greece and China. I have also noticed that I have learned to like history a little bit better. I used to hate social studies and now I look forward to having it.

Out of the dust

Out of The Dust, by Karen Hesse is a moving and touching book about the pain of living in the dark ditch of the Dust Bowl. This book stretches through a couple of years in the life of a farm girl named Billie Jo. It is an exhilarating, yet occasionally slow book written in the form of free write poetry. The book is in Billie Jo’s perspective, and follows her tough, poor, and lonely life. AKA on Amazon.com says: “The emotions that were expressed were very true to the actual feeling. It made me feel what they were feeling. Some parts were unexpected, and really quite sad, but in the end I think it turned out great. Overall, this is very well written and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about life during the twenties and the dust bowl.” And I completely agree. This book was completely touching and i felt like I was in the book. I also did feel that the book was very well written and well worded. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to a friend because it was touching, well written, and had a very good story line.

Teen Over scheduling paragraph

Over Scheduling in kids can cause many bad things for children and kids. They may feel stress and do poorly in school. Kids should not have too many things on there plate, and have enough time to finish work. But at the same time, under scheduling kids can lead to bordism and lack of creativity. So kids need to find the balance in between.

 

 Over Scheduling can cause stress and bad, unhealthy choices like drugs and bad food choices. This is because kids feel overwhelmed and feel like the only way out of the stress is to make bad choices. Kids should have plenty of free time and enough time to do homework and activities. Over Scheduling can also cause lack of choice and lack of sleep. Sleep deprivation causes the brain to function slower, and even change the brain.Kids and teens need 8-10 Hours of sleep each night. Some kids and teens claim to get only 5-6 hours! Some other people might say that overscheduling actually helps students with time management and you have less time to make bad choices. But in reality, think about food; it is easier to quickly grab a bag of unhealthy chips, than wash a whole bag of grapes. These are the kinds of small bad choices, that lead to even bigger and worse choices. About 70% of kids and teens in the US alone are overscheduled. Overscheduling causes bad things for the child and their brains.

Over Scheduling can also lead to worse and dropping grades. For good grades, you need time to study, and time to do your homework, but over scheduling can mean giving a limited time for doing so. Too many after school activities, plus too much homework is not a good combination. Not having time to finish your homework makes students feel guilty, and unaccomplished. And for now, the only job students have is school, and doing poorly in that can lead to a bad life and job. Students deserve to have a good life and good future, so over scheduling can stunt, or even stop that. On the other hand, some would say that only a little of time to do work keeps kids focused, but I would disagree because too little time can make students think they have so much more homework than they do; leading them to not want to do it. But at the same time, you do not want kids too have too much time and be under scheduled. Kids should have enough time to themselves, to do work, and to keep active.

Over scheduling of kids can also limit students to have enough time for themselves. It is important for everyone to have some down time and time to hang out, and it is especially important for teens and kids. With a busy schedule, kids may not have the time for this. The reason downtime is important is so kids can relax and cool down. Without time to cool down, kids may become stressed or even feel depressed, The reason this happens is because kids will not have the time to wind down. For example, do you ever feel overwhelmed or stressed when you are overpacked? Thats how kids will feel. Over Scheduling of kids can leave no time for themselves.


Lack of sleep, time for themselves and stress, are all symptoms of an overscheduled students. These things can make school so much harder and less fun. But kids also need plenty of exercise and activities after school as well, so they need to find the balance. ANd after all, you only get a childhood once, so make it a great one.

CYOA Self Assessment

I think me and Emma got an AE because  because we do have three relevant sources, but I only did one, our story did not include the information we researched, and my part of the story is pretty short. I think we could have worked a little harder on the CYOA. But we also did work very hard. I feel like Emma worked a little bit more than me, but I also feel that I did my part. I feel like maybe we could have done a little bit better if we had worked a little harder and longer. I also feel like the project may have been a little rushed as well because I felt like I din’t have enough time. But overall, I feel we both got an AE.
