SML Reflection

SML Reflection:

This year, my topic for SML is DIY projects related to school and school supplies. In this project, I have currently made a supply holder for my locker so it can efficiently and effectively hold my books, papers and any other important things. For the remainder of my SML project, I plan to make my own design of a pencil case, a computer case, several binder covers and crayons. So far, my SML experience has been good but I preferred how we did and organised SML last year. What I liked about last year is that we were completely independent and didn’t have to fill out a lot of forms  and blog post so we could focus more on doing an SML. This year, we have to fill out some forms and fill in some blog post so sometimes it can be annoying and distracting because some people might want more time to focus on building. As a learner, I feel that when making projects and doing them independently, I work well when working the way I like to learn which is to just focus on the design and building of my project and to not be constantly writing my progress down, although that can still be effective for others and myself.

One compositional rule I applied was the rule of triangles. The message I am trying to portray is that friends can be different from one another but they can still be united no matter how different they are.

One compositional rule I applied was the rule of space. The story I am trying to show is that the small plant which is like a child, that has sprouted is being pulled up by the other roots which represent other people, friends and family.

One compositional that I applied is the rule of repetition and pattern. The message behind this image is that you have to be patient and wait for things to “bloom” in order to truly understand.

Research on Self-Portrait Artist

This self-portrait was painted by a female artist named Frida Kahlo. It was created in 1940. The official name of this painting is the “Self-portrait with Thron Necklace and Hummingbird.” In this painting, I notice that there are many opposites in the painting and that the different creatures represent/symbolise a different thing. To me, the black monkey and black cat represent the devil or evil and the colorful insects represent heaven or good. She made this painting to show that she was dealing with sexuality issues, depression and pressure from society.

When I first saw this photo, I thought, “Oh he’s just a beggar on the side of the road that wants money” but after really looking into the true message, I saw that he was a beggar but he wasn’t asking for money, he was asking for change in the world. At first, you just see a beggar but when you look closely at it, you can see that his sign says, “Keep you coins, I want change.” This artwork is unique because it has a secret message hidden in it because at first you don’t see it but when you look closer, you can. This artwork was made in 2004 by Banksy in the streets on London. He wanted to tell people that just because the man in the artwork is a beggar, doesn’t mean he wants money. He is also saying that society is very stereotypical and assumes.

The reason why my photos are mainly my friends and family is because they have made a huge impact on my life. My family has impacted my life in a way where they show me that in order to have a healthy relationship with anyone/friends/family, you need to be honest and respect others and that you should treasure every moment in your life. My friends have impacted my life in a way where they show me that I shouldn’t sacrifice all the good times just because I’ve had some bad times. I believe that the most important aspect in my painting is the photos around because without them, the person looking at the painting just thinks “Oh, its just some photo of some girl” but with the photos, the person looking at it will know about my personality and will take the time to really look at it closely. Some traits/qualities that I am trying to portray are enjoyable to be around, fun, creative and adventurous. In my painting, I am most proud of my actual face painting because usually, it is difficult for my to successfully painting a portrait that looks like me but I finally did it.

The story behind this photo is that the person in the image has been trying to reach “God” but has failed many times but no matter how many times the person fails, they just keep on trying. One compositional rule that I applied is the rule of triangles. One important element is spacing. I want be able to show the person’s hand reaching and the person falling. Another important element is the background. I have to make sure that when taking photos, I don’t have too much happening in the background so that it will be focused on what the person is doing. One more important element is the arrangement of the objects in the photo. I have to make sure that the important things that are happening in the photo are in the middle so that they are the main focus.

The mood I’m trying to show is joyfulness and very “up” and happy. This mood is shown but the hooping of the person. One compositional rule that I applied is diagonal lines. One important element is the arrangement of the objects in the photo. I have to make sure that the important things that are happening in the photo are in the middle so that they are the main focus. Another important element is the background. I have to make sure that when taking photos, I don’t have too much happening in the background so that it will be focused on what the person is doing. One more important element is shadows. Shadows help show the dimension and depth of the things happening in the image.

Composition Rules of Photography

The first rule is line. In photographs there can be horizontal and vertical lines.Horizontal lines give the feeling of stability and calmness. Vertical lines give the feeling of power and strength. Also, there can be diagonal lines. Diagonal lines tend to be visually dramatic which gives the feeling of movement and visual tension. Next, there is the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds divides the image into thirds. If the things in the image are near the lines, the picture seems to look “right”. Then, there is the rule of triangles. The rule of triangles tend to form stable looking compositions. Then, there is the rule of space. The rule of space such as an empty space next to someones head make the image seem more thoughtful and makes it  look like the person in the image is thinking something. Next, there is the rule of repetition and pattern. Repetition and pattern gives of the feeling of texture. Next, there is form. Form can give realistic impression of 3D space.
