Playlist for Eighth Grade

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 10.17.13 am

The theme of my playlist for my eighth grade year is friendships. I chose this theme because something that I remember from eighth grade is starting new friendships, reuniting with old friends, and having to say goodbye to friends who are moving.

You Got a Friend in Me

I chose this song because it is about always being there for your friend when it gets tough.

“You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah, you’ve got a friend in me”

It is also about telling your friend how you will always be friends no matter how long it’s been or how far away you are, which I think works really well because a lot of my friends are moving this year and we have to say goodbye.

“Boy, and as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me”

My Best Friend

I chose this song because it is about always being their for your friends and about how they lift you up.

“When everything is wrong I’ll come talk to you
You make things alright when I’m feeling blue

You are such a blessing and I wont be messing
with the one thing that brings light to all of my darkness”

True Friend

I chose this song because it is about true friendship between two people and about how they will always stick with each other, no matter how hard it gets.

“You’re a true friend
You’re here till the end
You pull me aside
When something ain’t right
Talk with me now and into the night
‘Til it’s alright again
You’re a true friend”

Count on Me

I chose this song because it is about always being there for your friend and not letting them down.

“You can count on me like 1, 2, 3
I’ll be there
And I know when I need it
I can count on you like 4, 3, 2
And you’ll be there
‘Cause that’s what friends are supposed to do”

Umbrella

I chose this song because it is about how true friends bring out the best in each other and about how once you say that you are friends, you will always be friends.

“When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I’d be here forever
Said I’ll always be a friend
Took an oath I’ma stick it out ’til the end
Now that it’s raining more than ever
Know that we’ll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella”

Gift of a Friend

I chose this song because it is about how lucky you are to have your friends and how they believe in you and help you find yourself.

“When you have a friend
By your side
That helps you to find
The beauty you are
When you open your heart
And believe in
The gift of a friend”

Goodbye my Friend

I chose this song because since it is the end of eight grade, a lot of people are going to boarding school on top of all of the people who are moving, which means that a lot of my friends are moving. It is about saying goodbye to someone who you might never see again but knowing that it is okay because of all of the memories you made together.

“So goodbye my friend
I know I’ll never see you again
But the time together through all the years
Will take away these tears
It’s okay now
Goodbye my friend”

Miles Apart

I chose this song because it is about always remembering your friend, no matter how far away you two are.

“We’ll be miles apart
I’ll keep you deep inside
You’re always in my heart
A new life to start

Never Forget You

I chose this song because it is about never forgetting someone no matter what.

“I’ll never forget you
You’ll always be by my side
From the day that I met you
I knew that I would love you ’till the day I die
And I will never want much more
And in my heart I will always be sure
I will never forget you
And you will always be by my side ’till the day I die”

Unforgettable

I chose this song because I have met so many people this year who have changed my life and who I will never forget.

“Unforgettable, that’s what you are
Unforgettable, both near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before
Has someone been more”

I Will Remember You

I chose this song because, like i said before, a lot of my friends are moving this year and this song is about letting them know that you won’t forget them.

“I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories”

It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday

I chose this song because it shows how hard it is to say goodbye to someone who has changed your life and who you love.

“How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.”

We’re All in This Together

I chose this song because there is no way that I would have been able to get through middle school and eighth grade without the help of my friends, and this song shows how with the help of your friends, you can do greater things than you could on your own.

“We’re all in this together
Once we know
That we are
We’re all stars
And we see that
We’re all in this together
And it shows
When we stand
Hand in hand
Make our dreams come true”

SML Reflection

Has your project change since the beginning? If so, how?

At the beginning, my project was more focused on the sewing part because I really wanted to be able to create standardized sizes so that I could actually sell my clothes. My project has changed over time, though, and now I am more focused on the business part (creating the website).

What are you proud of so far?

I am ver proud of my website because although it is no where close to done, it has definitely come a long way. I was able to figure out how to add in my own clothing, photos, etc. and it is already looking great.

Do you feel creative when doing SML? If so, What are the conditions that help you be creative?

I do feel creative when I am making clothes because I can design whatever I want and then I get to actually figure out how to make it, which is really fun and creative. Something that helps me be creative is looking at other people’s work because I can get inspiration and go on to design my own thing.

Can you show any specific examples of your learning?

What have you learned about yourself as a learner?

I learned that I like to learn new things by trial and error. Like I said before, one of the ways that I figured out how Wix worked and how to create my website was by trying the different buttons. Also, when I make my clothes, if I don’t really know how to do something, I either search it up or most likely just try it myself and see if I can get it right.

How do you learn best? Does the structure of SML help? Or is the structure frustrating for you?

I think that the structure of SML frustrates me a little bit because there are so many forms that we have to fill out and there are so many expectations that we have instead of it just being an hour of class every week where we just get to research/work on whatever interests us without having to worry about grades or deadlines.

My Independent Book Project

Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone is set in modern day America. This novel follows the life of Samantha McAllister, who, on the outside, seems like a normal, happy, popular teenage girl. But on the inside, she is a mess. Sam has Obsessional-Compulsive Disorder and struggles to keep it a secret from her friends and everyone outside her family. When Sam meets Caroline and is introduced to a new club, she is forced to keep it a secret because of her friends’ attachments and fears of losing her.  She even meets a new boy, AJ, who starts out as a friend, but slowly becomes more. With all of this in her life, Sam starts to improve her health and finds herself constantly happy again . . . or so she thought. Can Sam finally find a way to be happy and normal?

Every Last Word is unique, captivating, and unpredictable. First of all, this novel is unlike any other. It gives the reader a whole new look at OCD that is nobody who reads it is likely to have thought of before. Next, this novel is captivating. Every Last Word is a real page-turner, which leaves you wondering at the end of each chapter and wanting to read more. Every Last Word is also very unpredictable. This book is guaranteed to be different than any other book that the reader has ever read and always has a surprising twist when least expected. Readers who have read and enjoyed Wonder by R.J. Palacio will definitely love this book. Both are about kids who are insecure about themselves because they are different then others and have to learn to except who they are and love themselves. Abstract Photo Research

Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 10.10.02 AM

The triangle thingy is the roof of a house surrounded by walls. The line thingy on the left is pipes along the wall.

The real story behind this picture is that this picture was the first recorded photograph. It is called the View from the Window at Le Gras by Joseph Niecphore Niepce. Joseph Niecphore Niepce was a French inventor who took this photo from the window of his studio in France in the early 1820s. Niepce turned to the camera obscura, a device where an image could be projected from a small hole into a dark box or room. He thought about capturing the image by a light sensitive material. In 1826, after a lot of trial and error, Niepce finally perfected it and created the first photograph.

Summative 2

For the first photo, I used rule of patterns because of the similar shapes of the leaves and the droplets of water. In the second photo, I used rule of space, thirds, and lines (vertical and horizontal). For rule of space and thirds, the building in the background is on the right top corner for thirds, and there is also a lot of space to it’s left. The fence shows rule of lines because it is a grid. In the third picture I used rule of lines because in the background there are vertical lines. Also, the hose could be a line.

In all the photos, they kind of convey sadness a little bit because they are all in black in white instead of colorful and happy. The second photo conveys loneliness and sadness because the building is all by itself and also the sky is grey and cloudy.

I think that the three most important elements in these pictures are the color, the perspective, and the lighting. All of the pictures are in black and white, which changes the mood of all of the pictures. Also, the perspective changes them because they are all very zoomed into the object and if it was taken from farther away, then they would look very different.  And for the first one, the lighting is very important because it shows the folds in the leaf and the water droplets more clearly.
