  • Reflection, Connection & Personal Response:

Sometimes I feel like Tris. I feel an urge to help people who had hurt me before too. This is like the postion Tris was in. Although Celab was a person that did hurt Tris and betray her, she still protected him by throwing herself at the bullet that was meant to kill Celab. Tris then ended up dead because of the bullet she took for him. Even though I am not put in that situation, I also feel an urge to help people when they are in trouble or put in a position where they are stuck. When I started this book I thought that this book was going to be unlike the other two books. The reason why I thought this was because in the beginning it was really calm and less violent than the others. But I was wrong. In the end I was wrong. Many people had died, including the main character, Tris. To me I felt that this book wasn’t as good as the other two. Although I love the way the author writes, I found the plot slightly shocking. Not many authors would go and kill their main character as the readers expect a ‘happy ending’, but Veronica Roth decided to make it a little sad. Other people like Tori had died as well. She was also a really important character to the book as well. She was the person who had directed Tris around and also partially protected her too. Without Tori, Tris would have been long dead. But overall I like this book. Other than the deaths of many important people I’d say that this book was a great book to read and other should read it too.

  • Reflection, Connection & Personal Response:

When I first starting this book I felt that since the first book (Divergent) the main character, Tris, has changed a lot. In the beginning of Divergent Tris was a girl who was weak but brave. She was nice and made friends in an instant. Now, Tris is still a brave and nice girl, but she isn’t weak. Tris is strong and able to stand up for herself. Another character in this book changed a lot as well. This character was known as Four. Now, Four has been revealed to be the son of Marcus, Tobias. When I first read about him I thought of a vicious person with no feelings. I also thought of a person that has no intention of falling in love. Now in this book Insurgent, I now see him as a person that is capable of love and also is not a vicious person. He is a caring, brave and yet shy inside. This then proves to the readers that he is a Dauntless from Abnegation. I feel that this book has uncovered many things that I have never really thought about. Before reading these two books I never gave a thought about people divided into factions. I never thought about people choosing factions over blood and family. While I was reading this, I also thought about the book and movies of the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games has a storyboard really close to this. Instead they have Districts and that every year two people (a boy and a girl) is then forced to play in these games of torture. This book is an amazing book that everyone should read. No matter what genre you like, this book is a great book and you should read it.

  • Reflection, Connection & Personal Response:

This book is intense. The way the author describes things so well that it makes the reader feel like they are in the book itself. In this book I felt many emotions rise. There was sadness, happiness and anger that rose throughout this book. In the beginning the author set me in a place that made me feel uncomfortable. I felt uncomfortable because the place Tris, the main character, was in was new territory and she didn’t know anything in there. Also, since she is ‘divergent’ she is in danger. So it is even more dangerous for her to be there, someone may be lurching around the place and suddenly attack her from behind. I only started to feel comfortable when Tris started to make friends. This then let my worries subside because I know that someone has got her back. At the end,  Tris had an extra person to take care of her and that person is Four. Knowing that Four is a really protective and aware person, I feel eased because now I know for sure that she is in safe hands. For me, the best part of the book was when Four or Tobais changed. Somewhere in the middle of the book the Erudites took over and put a chip into many peoples neck. One chip got into Four’s neck. When the chip was activated, the infected ones was under the control of the Erudites. Tris then had to stop this, so she went into the control room to turn the chips off. But instead of turning it off, she found Four. Four then was about to shoot her when he fought the chip off and went back to normal. This is my favorite part of the book because Four shows loyalty to Tris. This then completely allows my fear of her being killed lower a bit more. But knowing the risks Tris takes, I am still worrying about her. This leads me to my last point. Tris is not like me at all. Tris dares to take risks, while I am sitting at the side looking at the people taking risks. If I were in the book, I wouldn’t be the first one to jump off the building, I also wouldn’t go to Dauntless in the first place. But some of Tris is like me. Both of us are unsure of a lot of things. We have many good choices to chose from and we can’t make them. This book is an amazing book to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who like Sci Fi or action because Veronica Roth writes about them descriptively.
