AP Computer Science Principles | Encoding and Bitrate

– What is H.264?

A video compression standard.

– What is the original file?

The trailer to Jerry Seinfeld’s critically acclaimed masterpiece the “Bee Movie.”

– How big is the file?

13.9 MB.

– What is bitrate?

One kilobyte per second vs original video.

Encoding using Handbrake in the way that we are causes lossy compression, which lowers the file size, but also lowers the quality.

AP Computer Science Principles | Zip Compressions

Zip files are generally used to compress a file. Compression is making something smaller than it is usually. If I wanted to compress a file, the zip file will be a smaller size than the original. It is a lossless file, so nothing gets lost when compressed.

I learned how to encrypt a zip file with a password. It seems to be safe so far, but can be overcome through brute force.

The file size gets smaller when I use Terminal, but when I use the normal way to compress, it gets bigger for some reason.

Metadata is the fact that something digital occurred, and the details of it.
