Reading Maps / Basic Geography (TCI Ch1):

Before this unit, I used to think why most maps of the globe look different.

After this unit, now I know that this is because all these maps are distorted versions of the globe, and are all distorted in different ways.

Thematic Maps (TCI Ch2):

Before this unit, I used to know only a few different types of maps.

After this unit, now I know many more different types of maps. For example, physical features maps, climate zones maps, vegetation zones maps, etc.

Explanation Writing:

Before this unit, I used to think that longer pieces of writing are better because they give more detail.

After this unit, now I know how to use concise language in my explanation writing to make it easier for the reader to understand.

The part of this unit I enjoyed the most was the activities related to using maps and clues given to solve mystery problems because it was interactive, entertaining, and gave us the hands-on experience of how we would use maps in the real world.

The part of this unit I found the most challenging was memorizing geographical terms, especially the names of climate and vegetation zones, because there were so many, and also because I couldn’t find an efficient way of remembering their meanings.
